Powell Edges Anders for the Win

Photo Credit: Tommy McGaha Roger Powell had his hands full, but he proved capable of the task Saturday night at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. winning the Late-Model Stock main event in spite of everything Anthony Anders tried to do.
    "Anthony raced me clean the entire race," Powell said in Victory Lane. "My car was handling good for the first half of the race, but got real loose about halfway and I was just able to hold on against Anthony. Two weeks ago we knocked the rear end out of line but we just shoved it back and let it go. If it weren't for all the hard work of these guys working on my car, I couldn't ever be here."
    For the first half of the race, Powell had the lead with Anders putting on pressure. Veteran Marty Ward was riding third, waiting to see what was going to happen ahead of him. Then, when the flagman signaled the race was half over, the action heated up. Anders and Powell were figthing for position, and suddenly Ward had nosed his Chevy right in the midst of the action. Anders and Powell continued to battle, but  with ten laps left Ward just dropped back a bit to let the other two cars fight it out.
    Despite constant pressure, the fight cointinued until the white flag lap, when another car spun out, bringing out the caution to end the event. The race is frozen in place when the caution flags on the white flag lap.
    Powell won, with Anders second and Ward third. Will Burns and Randy Porter completed the top five.
    Trey Gibson had jumpet to the front when the race started, but had mechanical problems early and dropped out of the race. This ended his chances for a third-straight victory.
    Ricky Stephens was lined up in the pack for the Chargers main event, but jumped to the front in just too laps. he drove off while the rest of the field was fighting for position. Chris Harvell, the division points leader, finished second and Dale Walker was third. Tim Crowe finished fourth and James Johnson was fifth. Andy Norris, who came into the race just a few points away from the leader, had mechanical problems and finished seventh.
    Chuckie Greer, making his first start of the season in the Truck division, jumped out front at the start and ran away from what suddenly turned into a three-car race because of a crash on the first lap. At the start, Mamrty Ward's truck was hit from behind going into the third turn and the resulting crash knocked four cars from the field. Chuckie went on t win with Tim Lollis running a strong second and Terrry Seay was third. Ricky Burnett, Marty Ward, Jamie Altop and Davey Smart were the drivers unable to continue.
    In the Renegade race that started off the evening, Dale Stancil grabbed the victory and Andrew Cordell finished second. Bobby Emory was third and Barry Thorton was fourth. Parker Jameson finished fifth.
    Drew Moser jumped out front early and held on to win the Street Stock main event, with Dale Walker coming up to finish second and Travis Shelton was third. Dylan Crowe took fourth and Tyler Gibson was fifth.
    In the Four Cylinder race, Brian King captured his first victory and Charlie Hooper was second. Ray Mullinax took third and Don Tavernia was fourth. Dusty Simmone took fifth.
